Toledo has had a lot of garage door companies come and go over the years. The Overhead Door Company of Toledo™ has been here since 1932, making us the oldest operating garage door company in the city. We’re a 4th generation family business, and that matters: we’re not managing you from a call center somewhere else. We’re your neighbors and we take that seriously.
From our showroom on New Towne Square Drive, we serve homeowners and businesses throughout Lucas County and the surrounding region — including Sylvania, Maumee, Perrysburg, Rossford, Oregon, and Southeast Michigan communities across the state line.
Whatever your garage door needs — new installation, emergency repair, commercial service, opener upgrade — we’re here and we’re ready.

Ray Whimmer founded the Overhead Door Company of Toledo in 1932 to do garage door work right and treat people well. Ninety-plus years later, that’s still the operating principle. Now under fourth-generation ownership, Michael Huss is leading the company his great-grandfather built.
That kind of continuity isn’t just a good story. It means our technicians are trained to a standard that’s been refined over decades. It means when something goes wrong with your door — or you want to get it right the first time — you’re dealing with people who’ve been in the business for almost 100 years, and seen everything and fixed it all.
Toledo’s housing stock is one of the most varied in the region — Victorian-era homes in the Old West End, mid-century ranches in Heatherdowns, newer builds in Perrysburg and Sylvania, and everything in between. Getting a garage door right means understanding the style of a specific house, not just what’s in stock.
Our showroom on New Towne Square Drive carries the full range of garage doors:
If you have a historic home with a non-standard opening, we measure and custom-fit. If you want a carriage house door that doesn’t look like an afterthought, we have those too.
Stop in and see the options in person. Our sales team will walk through everything with you — no pressure, no upsell, just the right door for your house.
Most garage door problems show up at the wrong time.
When these things happen, our Toledo service team is available around the clock. Our factory-trained technicians arrive in fully stocked trucks and show you a written estimate before any work starts. Most repairs are completed in a single visit.
We service every brand, every make, every model — not just Overhead Door products we install.
Common repairs we handle:
Know when to call before it becomes an emergency:
Heard a sharp bang from the garage? Stop using the door immediately and call us — that’s almost always a broken spring under tension.
Not sure what you’re looking at? Our Anatomy of a Garage Door guide explains every component in plain language.
Northwest Ohio’s freeze-thaw cycle is one of the toughest conditions garage doors face. Metal components expand and contract with varying temperatures, gradually loosening hardware, fatiguing springs, and compromising weatherstripping. By late winter, doors that haven’t been maintained in a year or two often showing it.
Toledo’s homes in historic neighborhoods frequently have non-standard door openings — smaller, taller, or oddly proportioned — that require custom sizing and careful installation. Wooden doors on period-appropriate homes need different care than modern steel, and we handle both routinely.
Attached garages — common throughout Lucas County — also have their own considerations. Insulation matters more than homeowners realize to lessen noise and increase energy efficiency in attached spaces.
If your door hasn’t had a professional inspection in the past year, fall and late winter are the two best times to schedule one — before the season puts it under stress.
Toledo is home to auto suppliers, logistics hubs, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers. Commercial overhead doors are load-bearing infrastructure for daily operations. When they fail, the impact moves fast through the whole operation.
The Overhead Door Company of Toledo has been serving business, commercial, and industrial accounts in Lucas County and Southeast Michigan for decades. We understand what high-cycle use does to door systems, what preventive maintenance actually prevents, and how important response time is when something goes down and production is waiting.
We offer:
We schedule garage door service in arrival windows based on technician routing and availability. When you book, we’ll confirm the next available window for Toledo and follow up by call or text.
When you have an emergency and after-hours garage door issue, we’ll help you secure your garage and get a technician to you as quickly as possible.
Call (419) 476-7811— we’ll get you the first open window.
If your door is stuck while you wait: Don’t try to force it or bypass the safety system. Keep people and vehicles clear of the door opening.
There are other garage door companies in Toledo but none with 90-plus years of continuous local history. We have four generations of family ownership and the kind of institutional knowledge that only comes from serving the same community for that long.
Our technicians are factory-trained, arrive with fully stocked trucks, and provide clear written estimates before any work begins. Whether repair or installation, every job is backed by parts and labor warranties. We service all brands, not just our own or the ones we install. And if something isn’t right after we leave, we come back.
Beyond garage doors, our Toledo showroom is also your local home for Fireside Hearth & Home of Toledo — fireplaces, grills, and outdoor living — and Architect’s Choice Windows & Doors, our Andersen windows and entry door partner.
One team, one location — covering more of your home.
“Anthony was our technician for our garage door motor installs. He was very professional and courteous. He cleaned up after himself and made sure we understood everything about the new motors before he left.”
